There’s a common misunderstanding regarding knock off golf clubs. Many perceive these as being cheaply manufactured clones of the big brands like Callaway and Nike. That might be true in some rare cases, but a quality set of knock off golf clubs have similar, if not identical quality as the branded golf clubs but they are priced a great deal lower.

Knock Off Golf Clubs Fact #1
The major manufacturers of knock off golf clubs are legitimate golf companies. They do their own research and development which provides them with the industry knowledge to be able to produce golf club designs that can be manufactured with the same materials and technology the big brands use.

These clubs incorporate the same design principles such as club volume, moment of inertia and cavity backs, to name just a few.

Knock Off Golf Clubs Fact #2
The major manufacturers of knock off golf clubs will submit their clubs for approval to the same governing bodies that the big brands submit to (USPGA in the USA, R&A in Europe). This is an expensive process and no company that manufactures “cheap” knock-offs, in their right mind, would go through the effort and expense of submitting their clubs, just to have them rejected.

  • For example – In order for a driver to conform to USPGA and R&A the maximum volume allowed is 460cc. If the driver is considered to be under the 460cc by USPGA and R&A, it goes on the “Conforming Driver” list. If the driver fails the test, they are listed on the Non-Conforming Driver lists.

Knock Off Golf Clubs Fact #3
Developing conforming knock off golf clubs takes a lot of knowledge and a lot of manufacturing skill. A golf club could end up on the “non-conforming “ list if a manufacturer gets the build process wrong by a fraction of an inch in any way.

  • For example – The USPGA and R&A places limits on the Coefficient of Restitution of a golf club. This is simply how much the club-face will rebound after striking a golf ball. Therefore, getting the club face thickness wrong by even a millimeter can cause the club to fail.

Knock off golf clubs from reputable manufacturers conform to USPGA and R&A rules of golf and will cost you a lot less compared to the big brands. What you will end up with is a set of high quality, inexpensive and conforming golf clubs that will play just as good, if not better, than a set of expensive big brand sets.
